Sometimes, we royally F it all up, fail of course…
Failure is quite simple: you missed the mark. Your goal wasn’t met. If we all settled at that fate, then humanity would still be crawling on their hands and knees, and diapers would be booming– economically. Congratulations, you’re actually a walking testament to success. Oh, and thank goodness for plumbing.
Tell me now, was it introductory chemistry? Don’t even get me started. Let’s just say I was introduced to chemistry four different times. Yes, and there are other big conflicts that we face day to day in America, like the R-word– relationships. Hear me out, failure actually IS definite. It defines your trajectory. You can execute absolutely any action moving forward, or you can give up and go home. Honestly, you don’t even have to try that again. You just have to try. Also, sometimes going home is the best option! Giving up is not though. Go home, regroup, and get some rest. Take care of yourself. Be kind to yourself. You have so many more failures to commit!
So you wanna learn how to stop F-ing it all up? (Again, failing, of course.)
Well, you’ve come to the right place, but I must admit, the journey is a long road ahead. It’s totally doable. I just recommend that you keep failing. Oh, not what you wanted or were expecting to hear? It’s actually science. Nope, I didn’t learn this one in the intro. chemistry either, if it makes you feel better.
The Scientific Method for Life (totally not a gang)
Observation/Question
Think of this as your intention for taking action.
Is this meaningful to me?
Does this bring me temporary or long-term fulfillment? (long-term: good, short-term: sad)
What can I do to be most present in this situation?
Research
Count on yourself and what you value.
What draws me to this endeavor?
Can I solve a problem?
Does it bring me peace?
Hypothesis
Imagine a life with or without achieving this goal. Create a plan for either outcome.
Where might this take me?
Will I grow from this endeavor?
Experiment
Here’s where our creative failure takes place.
Follow your heart, mind, and/or gut.
Just try your best, and that’s the most you can do!
Be kind to yourself and never too harsh.
Analyze Data
This is the moment that we notice change.
Did I try my best?
Did I get enough sleep?
Did I eat a nutritious meal?
Did I prioritize my responsibilities?
Can I control the situation?
Will it benefit me to do so?
Did I keep my goal in mind?
Result/Conclusion
Now, we recall our intention in relation to our efforts.
Have you learned something about yourself?
Did you meet your goal?
Are you still satisfied with your progress?
After a full run-through, try again by experimenting in different ways.
Failing it all up can be exhausting, but there is a great victory in moving up. Failing can be a long journey, but journeys are exciting and full of adventure. A slight change in perspective can make all the difference. Don’t ever be afraid to question yourself, and certainly don’t confine yourself to a single outcome. We cannot control everything, but we can always control our perspective.
