Self-care tips while in school this Fall during the pandemic.
1. Eat well
Enforcing healthy eating habits at home is essential to maintaining a strong defense system. Your risk of contracting the virus or any other illnesses are lower when you follow healthy eating routines. Cook at home for an even healthier experience.
2. Exercise
Hitting the gym may not be the best idea or even an option this Fall, but you can easily substitute it with some cardio walks, runs, or at home-routines!
3. Take time off for yourself from time to time
Self-care is always key! Never overwork yourself. Balance in your life will make going through this semester much easier, especially if all activities and work-related tasks are done online. Make sure to set time aside for off-screen activities and go outside.
4. Focus on your goals and dreams
Regardless of these troubling and uncertain times, never let that deter you away from your dreams and goals. Keep your head up, push yourself, and remind yourself that you got this!
5. Ensure you are ALWAYS WASHING YOUR HANDS
Please, wash your hands for 20 seconds thoroughly after touching frequently touched surfaces out in public and within your home. As always, this not only ensures you are safe, but that others around you are as well.
6. Social Distance
Take the most precautions and protect those around you other than yourself. Wear that mask and a face shield (if possible), especially on campus.
7. Remember to be kind
Be kind not only to yourself but to others around you as well. We are all currently going through the same pandemic and are affected just the same. Being kind to each other will allow everybody to get through this strong and healthy!
8. Form an online study group with your friends to study together
As an alternative to meeting up for a study group session with your friends for a class, there is no harm in meeting up virtually through Zoom and prepping for a big test.
9. Join a campus club or organization
If your campus gives out the opportunity, it would be a good idea to join a student organization if you have the extra time to keep yourself as busy as possible. It may get lonely from time to time, so activities that interest you are something to consider signing up for.
10. Get an on-campus job
May be virtually too. Wouldn't hurt to make a few extra bucks if there is the opportunity.
11. Organize events to meet up with friends (safely!)
12. If you will be living alone/with roommates in the Fall, decorate and organize your place in the comfiest and homey-est way possible.
You’ll be spending more time than usual inside ,so it’s important to make it feel welcoming and comfortable. Also, make sure to maintain a clean and organized environment.
13. Keep up the positive thinking
Always wake up with a positive mentality. Negative attitudes can lead to a bad day and unproductive habits. It is a great idea to start the day off doing something productive. This may be doing your bed, cleaning up your place, or going out on a morning walk. Wake up everyday finishing this sentence: “I love myself because …..”. Remind yourself of the good things in your life and that everything will be okay. You’ve got this <3
14. Lastly, quarantine whenever necessary.
When going out, keep as much distance between you and others as possible. If you’re going out to eat somewhere, try to eat outdoors rather than indoors. Follow the 6 feet rule. Wear a mask when out in public and indoors. Wear a mask and face shield in even tighter closed spaces. Do not touch your face. Follow the 2 weeks of self-isolation rule if you happen to know someone who may have COVID-19 that you spent time with or is experiencing symptoms. Seek testing and take care of yourself as much possible in the meantime.
These times are very difficult for everyone right now in many different ways, but if we just follow all CDC guidelines and regulations in your area, we will get over this sooner than later. Otherwise, the Fall semester will likely be worse than it was in the summer and take us back to square one.
