Q&A with Student Board VP of Marketing, Ryan Levin

Updated: Mar 17

What does the role of VP of Marketing entail?

As a Co-VP of Marketing, I help manage all branded content for KS WELI as well as help create content for the Institute’s Instagram. I also work with a committee where they are able to unleash a lot of their creativity to come up with their own posts, I help oversee this process. The posts we create are usually those pertaining to special events that help enhance the KS WELI Instagram and create a fun feed for our followers. Some of my favorite posts are the monthly recaps because they really highlight all of the amazing things that KS WELI does and hosts.

What has been your favorite aspect of this position?

My favorite part of this position has been learning how to facilitate branding for the Institute because I never realized how many different guidelines there are and how specific you have to be. Kendra Scott has such a specific style and prominent energy and we want to ensure that KS WELI embodies everything that she values by staying true to the branding of the company.

What skills have you gained the most out of this position?

I think I really gained a lot of leadership skills, as me and my Co-VP, Kayla, manage a committee of about five people. It has truly been an amazing experience to learn how to lead a team, how to stay organized and assign tasks. It has also been so rewarding figuring out people’s strengths, so they can best contribute to the committee and boost creativity and enthusiasm when we meet. I think this position is such an exceptional opportunity for a student to hold as I am not only developing my marketing and branding skills, I am also becoming a better leader, communicator and entrepreneur.

What has been your favorite part of KS WELI outside of this marketing position?

I think my favorite KS WELI event I’ve been to so far would have to be the International Women’s Day dinner. It was such a cool experience, I was seated at a table with a bunch of successful women from the Austin area. It was a great opportunity to just network and learn more about what they do and what their goals are from an entrepreneurial perspective. I know one year Kendra Scott even came to speak to everyone, so I’m hoping that one day I can experience meeting her as well. Opportunities like this are what make the institute so unique and special. The Institute also gave me confidence as I begin looking for jobs and eventually entering the entrepreneurial workforce in a few short years.

What advice do you have for individuals who are looking to either join KS WELI from both general and marketing perspectives?

I would definitely say that if you are someone who is enthusiastic about developing a strong community of women who all love business and entrepreneurship you should absolutely join KS WELI. Even going to the events or socials or philanthropy events are so fun because you are able to meet so many new people who are like minded and have similar goals, while still maintaining the diversity that KS WELI values. I think that’s a huge benefit to joining KS WELI. If you want to be successful, just attend as many events as you can. For entering into a marketing position, I think showing an interest and an understanding of the KS WELI branding and content side of the operation, as well as recognizing the fun spirit of the organization, will get you very far. Additionally, just being an outgoing and creative thinker will be extremely beneficial when entering this or another marketing role.
