About Central Texas Food Bank:
Central Texas Food Bank is the largest hunger-relief charity in Central Texas with a mission to provide low-income families with food assistance through their packaged meals program. Through their consistent dedication and diligence, they can package nearly 54 million meals for the community and establish numerous non-profit partnerships for greater advocacy.
The Student Board Experience:
Our Student Board members were able to visit and volunteer at the facility this past month, helping with meal packaging and learning more about the mission and values of the various programs offered. Student Board Members were able to assist with the packaging of goods and materials as part of the larger volunteer assembly line, helping with boxing and carting as well. Each of the volunteers was assigned a specific task to complete over the course of the afternoon, enhancing the efficiency of the entire process.
One of the volunteers and Student Board members, Khushi Desai, stated that "the Central Texas Food Bank volunteering opportunity was my first time volunteering off campus with KS WELI. Understanding that there are people who are less fortunate in regard to having basic needs inspires me to try and give back as much as possible. Packing boxes at the food bank was a great way to help out and feel connected to the local Austin community!" The experience was a great opportunity for KS WELI to immerse themselves within the larger Austin community and build a greater community within the internal organization.
Another volunteer and Student Board member, Priscilla Olivarez, described the experience at The Central Texas Food Bank as "truly impactful and an amazing experience. Working with the staff and the volunteer staff was so inspiring, and seeing their determination made everyone else feel passionate about helping others!”
We look forward to our future volunteering events at The Central Texas Food Bank and cannot wait to make more wonderful memories with our Student Board leaders and KS WELI community!
