How did you come up with the idea for your business?
We wanted to create nice, high-end, collegiate accessories. This led to the silk twilly which led to the silk scarf!
What does the average day look like for you now as an entrepreneur (especially compared to past jobs/days)?
It’s always different! I try and make a plan for the day but it always ends up changing. I work on everything from illustrating scarf elements and product photography to communicating with retail partners and checking inventory levels. So, basically everything! I get to partake in projects from beginning to end, which is different from some roles in other jobs.
What are some of the top things you have learned so far?
Nothing is ever perfect and you’re always your hardest critic.
Who or what inspired you to become an entrepreneur?
Both my parents have their own businesses. My dad runs a boutique marketing agency and my mom owns a promotional products company. I’ve always grown up with the idea that working for myself was achievable and has been one of my foremost professional goals. Seeing them succeed in careers that they created from nothing has definitely been inspiring.
What have been 1-2 of your proudest moments in creating your business?
In 2022 we created a custom line of silk scarves, twillys, and pocket squares for the Houston Texans. Walking up to NRG Stadium to hand deliver these products that I had worked so hard on was surreal! Also, any time I see a scarf in the wild at football games I can’t help but feel like I’ve made it.
What’s the best advice you have received along your journey?
To find your niche and stick to it! You can’t have a target audience of everyone.
What’s a fun fact about you?
My mom’s parents worked at NASA when she was young and were partly the inspiration behind our Space City scarf and twilly.
