If you can see HER, you can be HER - Q&A with the founder of Sanrekhana

We are incredibly honored to interview Vaishali Jadhav the founder of Sanrekhana whose mission is to develop mission-driven leaders for mission-driven organizations. Vaishali Jadhav is also the KS WELI's 2022 October FoundHER and through this interview and article is sharing her experience as a founder with you to inspire and support the KS WELI's FoundHER Program pillar that if you can see her, you can be her!

Q: How did you come up with the idea for your business?

A: I came up with the idea of Sanrekhana after spending over 20 years working in internal leadership development and employee engagement programs. I saw (and hired) a number of external leadership development professionals and never found one that could truly balance what we know engages people and strong leadership. My work focuses on balancing head and heart leadership.

Q: What does the average day look like for you now as an entrepreneur (especially compared to past jobs/days)?

A: My days are a rollercoaster! I always workout in the morning. I live on the trail so I try to get a walk in before my workout. It’s vital that I start my day with energy. While there is no average or typical day, I generally spend the day either facilitating workshops, conducting client needs assessment calls and responding to proposals. In one day, I could facilitate a 2 hour session for women executives and then teach an undergraduate class later in the afternoon. I love that! I intentionally do not have meetings on Friday. That is my day to read white papers and design content. Everyone should have one day (or even half a day) when they don’t have any meetings to really foster open and free thinking!

Q: What are some of the top things you have learned so far?

A: So many things! I have learned to enjoy the slower times! I have had weeks filled with travel and program delivery, and then a few days of zero commitments. I used to think I needed to fill this space. But when I released that expectation, I found to cherish that time; it gives me the renewal to handle the hectic times!

Q: Who or what inspired you to become an entrepreneur?

A: So many people told me I should start my own company - that was very encouraging! After seeing the lack of Indian-American women in leadership development, I was inspired to start Sanrekhana. I know that I have a point of view that has helped so many companies and leaders that I was inspired to add my voice to the dialogue.

Q: What have been 1-2 of your proudest moments in creating your business?

A: Securing my first C-Level, multi-month team coaching engagement! This happened after only a few weeks and I was elated! This group secured the contract after seeing me in action (which is my favorite way to get work!).

I am also proud of my work with women’s leadership development. As a facilitator for Chief, I steward peer coaching sessions for executive women who are very senior in their roles. As a Leadership Development Instructor for the Kendra Scott Women’s Entrepreneurial Institute, I help women who are early in their careers with the skill to build and lead great teams!
