What legacy do we leave behind?
Is it through our bold actions, uniqueness, connections with others, or passion? Rachel B. Lee, the marketing lady-boss, has this covered through her Four Steps of building your personal branding.
Lee is an entrepreneur and co-founder of Stand Out Authority, a marketing company building personal brands for people and well-known businesses. Lee spoke at the Kendra Scott Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership Institute’s (KS WELI) EmpowHER hour on Wednesday September 6th, 2023 about her personal branding tips.
The first step is to find your skills. What are your strong suits in soft skills and hard skills? This is a necessary step for yourself and jobs you could apply to in a work setting. What do you bring to the table? The various skills that come together are what makes you different and helps you stand out. If you are unsure what skills you have, ask five people whom you are close to! Ask them what they would come to you for and what they believe you are skilled at.
The second step is discovering what makes you stand out. As Lee says, “ You are unique. Do not realize it.”. This quote refers to not implying your past as a given to new people you meet. In other words what education, cultural background, experiences and jobs create your special perspective and credibility, that forms your own persona. Each of these topics can highlight and differentiate your identity in a crowd.
Now that you know your skills and unique qualities within your community, who do you speak to? As Lee stated, the third step is finding your audience, the most vital and underrated step to success. Who is going to relate with your story? It is completely normal to not connect with every person you come in contact with. It is in your best interest to have a stronger quality of association with the people in your audience that resonate with your background and experiences. In this manner, there is a captivated audience who connects with your experiences and background who you can share your passion with!
What is an element that fills your adrenaline and gets you going? The answer to this question lies in finding something you are proud to speak about and want to make a greater impact on. Lee’s talk at KS WELI inspired me, as a young female, to build my voice as soon as possible. Lee is truly a lady-boss in her own way, by following her personal brand mechanism and outwardly sharing it worldwide through several social media platforms.
Lee’s EmpowHER Hour Panel at KS WELI showcased a sneak peek of how far personal branding can deepen connection and spread world-wide. Her passion for helping build people’s personal brand is a reflection of her success. Speaking at events to her audience displays her credibility and background with her strongest skills.
