How to Make the Most of Fall in Austin

We are officially knee-deep in fall and I’m sure most of you, like me, feel like you haven’t made the most out of everyone’s favorite season. Although we may not get the typical changing leaves and crisp fall air, there is still time before winter approaches to take advantage of fall time in Austin, so here are some crowd favorites.

My friends and I found ourselves looking for a fun fall activity and heard about Pumpkin Nights. Located about 30 minutes from west campus, Pumpkin Nights is a 7 week long festival featuring various fall-themes vendors and excursions. I made the trip over with minimal expectations and was pleasantly surprised by the immersive setup. The general admissions ticket gets you a 30 minute walk-through of not-so-simple pumpkin and lighting displays that even feature scenes with cultural inspiration. I left the grounds with a warm cup of cider and my fall cravings fulfilled.

Next on the list we have Sweet Eats Fruit Farm located just North of Austin. Now this is your typical fall adventure with a two acre pumpkin patch and one of the largest corn mazes in Texas. This is a truly family friendly, all ages event that takes place from September-November with activities such as an interactive petting zoo, pig races, wagon rides, and countless more. There is really no reason to be bored this fall when things like Sweet Eats Farm is right at our fingertips.

One of the most simple pleasures of fall is taking a trip to your favorite coffee shop and sipping on a pumpkin spice latte. Some of my favorite coffee shops/cafes include Mozart’s on the lake, Cosmic Coffee, Intelligentsia, and obviously Lucky Lab for a West Campus favorite. So next time you need a study spot or a place to cozy up with a book, make a stop to some of Austin’s best.

Growing up in the Midwest, fall always meant colorful leaves and crisp air. So amidst these rainy and gloomy Austin days, the city sure makes up for the lack of seasons with plentiful fall activities that give me a glimpse of home.
